Fracking was banned by the people, by vote, in Longmont. The ban was preempted by the state. Fracking was under moratorium until last May in Boulder County. The moratorium was lifted under threat of lawsuit by the Colorado attorney general. Our state does not and will not protect citizens but instead is motivated by corporate interests. No hydraulic fracturing permit has ever been denied by the commission whose mission is supposed to include the health and safety of the people, the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC).
This while a house explodes, killing two, in Firestone. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) turns a blind eye to the emission studies while children in Erie are suffering nosebleeds which are mere symptoms of more serious insults to their bodies. Thursday night, there was a free screening of “We The People 2.0” at the Longmont Public Library for citizens who want to take their local communities and government back from state preemption and the fracking industry.
