New York City may be rolling ahead with enforcing menu labeling after the Trump administration pulled the plug on a federal rule that was supposed to take effect earlier this month, but California says it’s going to wait for FDA. The California Department of Public Health told MA that the Golden State is “unable to enforce menu labeling requirements until the Food and Drug Administration finalizes the rule.”

Since the agency decided to delay its rule — which would have mandated all restaurant, grocery and movie chains with more than 20 locations post calories on their menus — just days before it was supposed to kick in May 7, state officials have decided to use the extra time to “work with and educate restaurants and other covered food-facilities to help them come into compliance.”
