Supervisors favor more local control over livestock feeding operations

Responding to a request from the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors, Story County supervisors on Tuesday voiced their unanimous support for more local control in assessing the potential environmental ramifications of newly proposed concentrated animal feeding operations.

The request, sent out March 24 to each of the state’s 99 counties, asked that supervisors discuss whether they would support, oppose or have no opinion on greater local control and respond with a tally within 30 days — a deadline the three Story County supervisors narrowly missed.
